Castle in the Sand

Here I am

hoping to build

my castle in the sand

I dream and I dote

I practice and plan

for my beautifully built

castle in the sand

one for the ages

gloriously grand

nothing that my castle

cannot withstand

Except

when dreams turn to doubts

and wondering if I can

all while days pass and

I start to give away my sand

Buckets to my boss

his wish is my demand

others to distractions

more than I had planned

Until I find myself

on the beach once full of golden sand

that I let slip between my fingers

and blow past my trembling hands

It all happened too fast

for me to understand

that I missed my chance

to build my castle in the sand.
